Within seven months, that man nearly killed her.<\/p><p>There were photos. There were videos. There was a SWAT team. And still, the charges\u2014attempted murder among them\u2014were eventually thrown out due to Canada\u2019s Jordan\u2019s Rule, which prioritizes a defendant\u2019s right to a speedy trial over a victim\u2019s right to justice. Cait\u00a0never got her day in criminal court.<\/p><blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m done doing it your way.<br \/>We\u2019re doing it my way now.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><h2>From Survivor to Relentless Advocate<\/h2><p>Rather than accept the failure of the system, Cait\u00a0took action. She created <strong>EVE\u2014End Violence Everywhere<\/strong>\u2014to provide what she never had: real support, immediate advocacy, and unwavering accountability.<\/p><p>EVE meets survivors where they\u2019re at. Whether it&#8217;s finding shelter, dealing with abusive partners still at large, or securing therapy and legal aid, EVE helps women escape and rebuild with dignity. Cait\u00a0and her team aren\u2019t interested in red tape. If a survivor needs groceries, hotel safety, or trauma-informed therapy, they make it happen\u2014fast.<\/p><h2>Why EVE Exists<\/h2><ul><li><strong>97%<\/strong> of abusers in EVE\u2019s community are not incarcerated<\/li><li><strong>56%<\/strong> of criminal cases in Canada are thrown out<\/li><li><strong>1 in 3 women<\/strong> will experience violence in their lifetime<\/li><\/ul><p>But these aren\u2019t just numbers\u2014they\u2019re lives. And too often, the system treats victims like data points, offering apologies instead of justice. EVE exists because <strong>the system is failing<\/strong>, and survivors are often forced to go it alone. Cait\u00a0refused to let that continue.<\/p><h2>Bridging the Gap Between Silence and Support<\/h2><p>What makes EVE different? It doesn\u2019t just offer services\u2014it offers <strong>connection<\/strong>. When the police stop calling, when prosecutors forget your name, when legal aid is asleep on the Zoom call\u2014EVE is still there.<\/p><p>Their advocates don\u2019t clock out. They create WhatsApp groups so survivors can reach out day or night. They pay for safe housing, therapy, and groceries. They don\u2019t just advocate\u2014they <strong>act<\/strong>.<\/p><blockquote><p>\u201cWe are the middle person.<br \/>The human contact.<br \/>The ones who answer the phone when no one else will.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><h2>Building More Than an Organization\u2014Building a Movement<\/h2><p>EVE is growing fast, but Cait\u00a0is just getting started. Her vision includes:<\/p><ul><li>Modular housing for survivors<\/li><li>A survivor treatment center<\/li><li>Peer advocates in every hospital across Canada<\/li><li>Legislative reform to make victim protections enforceable<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Cait<\/span>\u00a0is now leading a constitutional lawsuit against the Canadian government with 21 other plaintiffs, demanding reform to the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights.<\/p><blockquote><p>\u201cThe laws were written by people,\u201d she says.<br \/>\u201cSo we\u2019re going to write new ones.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><h2>What Survivors\u2014and Supporters\u2014Need to Know<\/h2><ul><li>Most survivors never see justice. The system is designed to protect abusers more than victims.<\/li><li>Silence is where abusers thrive. Speaking out, even to one trusted person, can break the cycle.<\/li><li>Real-time help matters.
